Senior Database Engineer
 
Description of Position:
As a member of our technical staff, you will be responsible for reviewing and enhancing the database architecture and implementation. You will participate in the design and development of the schemas and associated database support of two new product lines at Ceon. We are looking for someone with strong problem solving skills that is highly motivated and focused. The right person for this position possesses a positive attitude and desire to play a major role in a new product launch.

You will play a key role in the direction and success of the technology. Your seasoned experience will lend to a culture of fast paced innovative development, leading edge technology solutions, and a collaborative working environment that thrives on individual and team excellence.

You must have the ability to produce clear and detailed design specifications. You will participate in all phases of development from definition and design through implementation, debugging and testing. You will provide technical leadership and take ownership of the database development and maintenance. You will work closely with other developers on the team to find solutions for difficult problems. While your main focus is database design you will participate in other non-database related development.

You will also be responsible for supporting and mentoring Java developers in creating effective SQL. You will provide consultation to Ceon’s legacy product offshore teams.

The majority of our development is done in Java and Enterprise Java Beans on Windows, Solaris, and Linux.
 
Areas of Responsibility:
As a member of our technical staff your time will be divided among the following responsibilities:
  • Design and development of the new product schemas
  • Database performance analysis and tuning
  • Java Development
  • Software Maintenance
  • Cross Functional Reviews i.e. documentation, requirements, analysis models, use cases, training material, etc.
  • Unit Testing, Code Review, Code Analysis
  • Integration Testing
  • Process Improvement
  • Mentoring Junior Staff
 
We're looking for someone who has:
  • A minimum of 8 years in software development
  • Oracle experience specifically: SQL and PL/SQL
  • Prior experience as an Oracle DBA is preferred
  • Experience tuning a database for maximum performance
  • Experience coding in EJB, JAVA, JavaScript, JDBC, JMS, HTML, XML, XSLT, and C++
  • Working knowledge of BEA WebLogic Server or any other J2EE compliant application server
  • Experience in Object Oriented (OO) design
  • Experience in building scalable, distributed systems
  • A good understanding of Windows or Solaris
  • A Bachelor's degree in computer science. Equivalent experience is also acceptable
  • Excellent analytical skills

Helpful Skills:
It would be helpful if you are experienced with:
  • A background in complex search algorithms
  • Experience with Oracle RAC is a plus
  • A background in telecommunications or cable TV. Specifically, experience in working with switches (5ESS, DMS-100, and so on), ISPs, high speed data networks, VoIP, or video network elements
  • Experience with product catalog or product life cycle management systems is a plus
Reporting:
You will report directly to the SVP of Engineering, and will work with a team of other employees, including other development engineers, test engineers, business analysts, program management, solutions team, architects, and technical writers.
